Return of the Ovation Rock Show!
Well we did it!! Two years since the last sell out Ovation Rock Shows took place at the Minerva Theatre, and on Saturday 22 Jan we saw the return of our bands and groups to the stage for what was another successful and enjoyable evening of live music!Stuart Morris
We’re excited to welcome Stuart Morris to the team in the role of Trustee! Stuart is a part-time folk singer and mathematician who has enjoyed a portfolio career as scriptwriter, teacher and journalist. In the 80s and 90s, he cut his creative teeth working on music videos and performing on the London cabaret circuit. His TV and Radio scripts have been broadcast all over the world – even in Iran, and he currently shares his time between lecturing at the University of Chichester, writing, and tutoring Maths and English. For many years, he has been involved in promoting live music and strongly believes in the power of performance to change lives. His daughter Georgina enjoyed performing in several of our bands over the years before going on to University.
‘Mac’
We are deeply saddened to say that we recently lost a good friend and huge supporter of Ovation Music. David ‘Mac’ Macdonald had been a Trustee of the Charity since our launch in Feb 2016, he also loved helping out behind the scenes at our Rock Shows and Festivals. We will miss him! Our thoughts are with his family.
Filming at the Minerva Theatre
It’s only been 15 months since our last Rock Show, but after a ton of work and planning (much of it on zoom) we’ve managed to safely film and record 15 bands and groups (ages 8 to 17) performing live at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Music videos will accompany the forthcoming short film “Stand Up, Stand Out” to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Ovation Music. It’s been an awesome week for everyone involved and so good to see these young bands playing together for the first time in well over a year!! Huge thank you to Chris, Gabriel & Jackson for the filming, David Scarlett and Jack Hertzberg for the sound and audio recording, Ben for the superb lighting, Murray Hughes for the support along with the rest of our excellent team of tutors (Georgie, Tom, Immy, Dan, Henry, Robbie), James for the drum kit, the Theatre tech crew, our supporters & sponsors, and everyone who donated to make this happen!
Stand Up, Stand Out
Due to Covid-19 our 5th anniversary ‘Ovation Rock Show’, due to be held at the Chichester Festival Theatre, cannot now go ahead in Spring ‘21. This is a huge blow for the many children and young people involved, as well as for our dedicated team of music teachers and young volunteers.
What are we doing about it? Well, it’s important to keep everyone engaged in a positive and creative way, so we’ve decided to make a movie! This will feature personal stories, live footage, and great music, as well as send a message from the next generation about the importance of music in all our lives!
Now more than ever wellbeing and positive mental health in children and young people is paramount, and although we have lost ground and been hit hard by the closures of our rehearsal spaces, musical activities and live performances, we are still very much alive and kicking (albeit virtually!)!
Thanks to recent Sponsorship and additional private donations totalling £4000, we have achieved our fundraising target of £5000. 100% of all money raised will go directly towards the costs of producing this unique film.
The film will be screened at Chichester New Park Cinema in the Spring and will also be available on DVD.
